Lose to Win | Poem

Though I won by the mental, I gain loss by the heart
Masculinity erased in favor of being a spook in the house
Doused my anger with a bucket of nods and agreeance
Taking shelter in the retreat over a worthy soldier's death
Coward...the powerlessness makes my insides cruel to one another
The pedestal of a bigger man, make me feel minute in comparison
Heresy, to hold these emotions and pour nothing but silence
Allowing myself punctuations to skew into my side
With a side of my tears floating down my face, down this road
Exhausting all that could've been said, that should've been said
To stare evil in the face and slay with these vicious tongues
Sharpened for years against abusive blades
Trained by the warfare it was given waiting to bleed every drop of fuckery
Out to where my opposition stands and for once
Be heard as a man...not as this boy who stands here
Silenced, miniscule, unimposing, cowardly
Hiding behind these battle lines, while keeping those in mind who need my tacit cooperation...with my foe
To be its punching bag, its day to take out on
To be made a fool when everything behind my teeth is full of anger and righteousness
Sacrificing the taste of my own blood for a still muscle
I just...stand...and take it, once again
Heavy blows undertaken to everything that I am
Gambling with uneven odds that my enemy will exhaust its resources...
And my people will make it home safe, carrying with them the silence of peace
